Sahlgrenska University Hospital
Rekonstruktiv kirurgi vid inflammatorisk tarmsjukdom
Sahlgrenska University Hospital is one of four designated national highly specialised care (nationell högspecialiserad vård, NHV) centres in Sweden for reconstructive surgery in inflammatory bowel disease. The service treats patients with ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease or indeterminate colitis who have had the colon and/or rectum removed and wish to restore bowel continuity. About 50 patients a year undergo reconstructive surgery here, and Sahlgrenska is one of only two Swedish centres still constructing new Kock (continent ileostomy) reservoirs.
